Fire at Evonik's plant in Germany claims two lives

Two fatalities were reported after an explosion rockedEvonik's cyclododecatri-ene (CDT) plant at the Marl chemical park near Duisburg, Germany on March 31. Evonik said it is investigating the cause of the accident.CDT is used to make lauro-lactam, which, in turn, is used* as a monomer in polyamide 12 (PA 12). Evonik said thatthe incident would affect the 'Vesta-mid', 'Vestamelt', 'Vestosint', and 'Vestenamer' product families.
