Kuwait is scrapping a US14-bn project to build a fourth refinery in the oil-rich country, according to reports appearing in Kuwaiti newspapers. According to reports, the country's Prime Minister, Sheik Nasser Al Mohammed Al Sabah said the Cabinet would decide to scrap the project in compliance with results from an investigation by Kuwait's financial watchdog, the Audit Bureau. The nation's lawmakers have accused state officials of profiteering from the project because the contracts to build it did not go through the Central Bidding Committee.
