Maran asks jute industry to focus on modernisation

Lack of diversification has affected modernisation and efficiency of the jute industry, according to the Union Textiles Minister, Mr. Dayanidhi Maran. "Since there is a definite demand for jute packaging from the Government, the industry has become lethargic. There is a need for a change in attitude and the industry has to wake up." Modernisation was important to produce high quality jute goods at a reasonable price, he said.
