Ube to Merge Caprolactam and Nylon Subsidiaries in Thailand

Ube Industries says it will merge its Thai Caprolactam (Bangkok) and Ube Nylon Thailand (Bangkok) subsidiaries effective February 1, 2010, and that the merged company will be named Ube Chemicals Asia (Bangkok). Ube holds 91% of Thai Caprolactam and Marubeni holds 7%, and the rest is held by local investors. Thai Caprolactam, which produces and sells caprolactam and ammonium sulfate, had sales of bahtl3 million ($393,000) in 2008. Ube Nylon Thailand, which produces and sells nylon resins and nylon compounds, is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ube, and had sales of baht2.56 million in 2008.
