摘要

Lightweight porous ceramics prepared from common zeolite-containing rocks is an energy-saving alternative to conventional foam glass. Here we show that not only chemical and mineral composition of the raw rock is important for choosing an appropriate technology to obtain a porous ceramics with the best performance, but the raw rock microstructure as well. Rocks with open-crystalline zeolitization can be used for manufacturing of the most lightweight (100-150 kg/m(3)) porous ceramics without mechanical activation, whereas rocks with cryptocrystalline zeolitization requires additional mechanical activation to obtain such a lightweight product.
