Switching-off some of electric locomotive traction motors for saving electric energy on traction when driving light-weight train

摘要

The data of tests conducted on Experimental loop of VNIIZhT for evaluate saving electric energy on traction by switching-oft some of electric locomotive VL 10 traction motors are presented. Switching-oft four of eight traction motors of electric locomotive when driving train of 1488 tons weight saves about 1,6 %; economy decreases with raising train weight; it should not to switch-off ventilation of traction motors completely; air supply ought to be controlled in steps with account of motor heating.
