The effects of hair color on the personality impression of faces - the difference between typical and unusual faces

The present study examined the effects of hair color on the facial impression and the difference between typical and unusual faces. Stimuli were the photographic images of the Japanese males and females faces whose hair colors were changed into brown, red-purple and green. 80 subjects rated each of the faces on 16 personality traits. Factor analyses of the ratings produced two factors (social desirability, activity) for personality impression of faces. Also, in the impression of social desirability, significant interaction was found between hair color and facial typicality. These results suggested that hair color and facial typicality interacted in impression formation.
