24GHz UWB and 77GHz Transceivers for Automotive Radar Applications

mm-wave transceiver modules have been developed for a 24GHz UWB and a 77GHz radar applications by employing GaAs p-HEMT MMIC technologies. The entire transmit and receive functions of each radar are housed within a low-cost single-cavity module structure with integrated antennas. RF functions of both radars are realized with a fundamental-frequency VCO, a power amplifier, single-chip receivers and for the 24GHz UWB radar with an additional ASK pulse modulator. Undesirable interference between MMIC's are circumvented by a newly developed filtering lid for the modules which also enabled an unprecedented 65dB on/off ratio of the ASK modulator.
