In this paper, the catalytic effect of both Cl contained within RDF and addition of Ca on NO_x generation during RDF combustion in fluidized beds are discussed. NO_x generation was examined using a simulated flue gas permeation test with NH_3 through a limestone particle packed bed. It was confirmed that mixing with gaseous HCl increased NO_x cnversion. After the permeation test with gaseous HCl, fine particles below 1 #mu#m in diameter were formed on the surface of the limestone particles. It appears that the increased surface area of the limestone particles promoted the catalytic effect on NO_x generation.
