Waste heat recovery is the most efficient way to save energy as well as decrease CO_2 emission of a hot stove. In China Steel Corporation, the No. 1 Blast Furnace is equipped with three hot stoves, in which a heat-pipe heat recovery system is installed to recover the flue gas sensible heat. To assure the efficiency of this heat recovery system, a performance evaluation model based on combustion theory was developed and tested to evaluate its performance with operation data. The evaluation results revealed that this system could recover over 13,000 kW of energy, which implied that the heat recovery efficiency was around 56.0 percent. By the operation of the heat-pipe heat recovery system, an energy saving over 2.4 million US dollars annually and the CO_2 emission reduction of 28,399 tons/year were achieved.
