Using of space by the shrew Sorex caecutiens (Insectivora, Mammalia). Home ranges and long-distance movements [Russian]

Using of space in Sorex caecutiens are considered. The animals were studied on the lines of life-traps using capture-marking-recapture (CMR) technique. The majority of shrews are residents. Some individuals were observed within home ranges over 13 montsh. Animals passed round their home ranges for a day. The central part of the ranges was the most frequently visited by animals. The average size of home ranges in females born. this year was similar in various habitats. The home ranges in matured females of the first year remained the same by size and configurations. After wintering, the area of females' home ranges increased, Males were not mature for the year of their birth and next spring they expanded their home ranges and embraced those of many adult felames. The movements of animals at distances exceeding the size of their home ranges were registered. These movements are leaving and coming of animals; young animlas move to search for their home ranges or exchange them.
