PECTAPALOCHRUS GEN. N., A NEW GENUS OF SOFT-WINGED FLOWER BEETLES OF THE TRIBE APALOCHRINI (COLEOPTERA, MALACHIIDAE)

Analysis of species of Dromanthomorphus Pic from South-East Asia showed that the genus was distinguished by the following special male characters: flabellate, serrate, or filiform antennae, monochrome white pubescence of surface, swollen metathorax with gladiate appendage, stout and excavate anterior and intermediate tibiae, elongate and modified anterior and intermediate coxae, apical tergites with specific slanting and like tiles sculpture at tip, apical sternites bilaciniate, with specifically sculptured apices. These characters are completely lacking in Palaearctic species of Dromanthomorphus, which are characterized by flabellate or serrate antennae, simple, not swollen metathorax lacking appendages, double pubescence of surface, white and black in colour, apical tergites simple, evenly rounded, apical sternites evenly narrowed, emarginate in middle, with simple, not sculptured apices. On the basis of these different characters, a new genus, Pectapalochrus gen. n., is described for Palaearctic species. Keys to Pectapalochrus species and Apalochrini of Eurasia, as well as illustrations of overall morphology and male structures of the new genus are given.
