Long-term dynamics of collembolan communities (Hexapoda, Collembola) in hydrological series of pine forests in southern Taiga.

Springtail communities in pine forests located along the moisture gradient differed in their dynamic peculiarities. Long term investigations conducted during 1981-84 and in 1995 revealed the collembolan population in Pinetum myrtillosum sites remained unchanged as it was labile in other pine forests, in drier and overmoistened biotopes. The range of varying characters in stable (P. myrtillosum) and fluctuating (P. cladinosum, P. hylocomiosum, P. sphagnosum) springtail communities was revealed. Theformation of one or other organizational types of collembolan community is related to the moisture and trophic regimes in a biotope. The importance of stable and fluctuating springtail communities for bioindication is discussed.
