Measurement-based admission control (MBAC) schemes are one of the most interesting connection admission controls (CAC), which can lead to the more aggressive admission behaviors. One of the key issues in MBAC is how to estimate the bandwidth requirement for a next control time interval, so that we propose a novel MBAC approach with the indirect/direct variance measurement of aggregate arrival rate. Our approach derived from minimum envelope rate (MER) technique substantially improves the utilization of network resources while meeting the prescribed quality of service (QoS) object. However, it is possible for these MBAC schemes to make errors associated with the bandwidth estimation. Therefore, it is indispensable to explore the correctional method to enhance the management efficient of high speed networks. A tool of the on-line bandwidth adjustment is proposed by use of the normalized root mean square (rms) error with the upper threshold and lower threshold. Simulation results confirm that the refined degree of the initially estimated bandwidth error is around 10% using the proposed bandwidth adjustment method.
