Communications, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite (COMS), which is a multi-mission GEO satellite, was launched in 2010 and has performed its missions successfully up to this point. Using the meteorological data from COMS, the accuracy of weather forecasting has been improved, and many meteorological research projects have been performed. Now, Korea is planning to launch the next meteorological satellite (GK-2A: Geo-Kompsat 2A) as the successor of COMS meteorological satellite. The ground system of GK-2A which will process the meteorological data and space environment data is being developed. GK-2A meteorological payload will collect and send the meteorological image using 16 channels, while COMS meteorological payload has only 5 channels. The GK-2A ground system will have capacity to receive, preprocess, process, analyze, and archive the meteorological data. The archived meteorological data will be provided for weather forecasting, research, etc.
