ETRI has been developing the Ka band communications payload system for COMS(Communications, Ocean, and Meteorological Satellite) which will be launched at the end of 2008. The, Ka band communications payload consists of the two subsystems which are the multi-beam antenna subsystem and the on-board switching transponder subsystem. The antenna subsystem consists of the two single offset reflectors and three feed assemblies. This paper describes the multi-beam antenna RF design, structural design and thermal design for the reflectors and the feed assemblies. The RF core design parameters to meet the requirement of gain, side-lobe, cross-polarization discrimination and cross-polarization isolation, etc., are shown. The overall configuration of antenna subsystem is presented and the preliminary design results for structural and thermal aspects including modal analysis, stiffness analysis, and thermal analysis are shown.
