This paper investigates the block error rate (BLER) performance when adaptive antenna array beam forming (AAA-BF) coupled with transmit diversity or AAA-BF is applied assuming the total constant number of antennas in W-CDMA forward link. Computer simulation results show that assuming the symbol rate of interfering dedicated physical channel (DPCH) is identical to (four times) the symbol rate of the desired DPCH (30ksps), the required transmit E/N at the average BLER=10{sup}(-2) sting AAA-BF coupled with 2-branch transmit diversity is decreased by approximately 0.5-1.0 dB compared to that using AAA-BF with all antennas for the number of total antennas of 8, when the number of users is smaller than 33 (9). Meanwhile, when the number of users is increased further, AAA-BF is superior to AAA-BF coupled with transmit diversity by strong interference suppression effect.
