摘要

We show a scalable optical cross-connect architecture, which is based on a wavelength modular switch (WMSW) and a wavelength grouping switch (WGSW), can provide good scalability for increase of traffic in backbone network. In WMSW, which routes optical signals divided into several sub-grouped networks, its hardware size remarkably increases in large volume of traffic. In the other side, WMSW, which routes bundled optical signals for same destination node, its hardware size is relatively large in small volume of traffic. We evaluated node cost of the architecture, the WMSW and the WGSW. The WGSW provide lower node cost than the architecture in large volume of traffic. However, the architecture can expand switch capacity efficiently, by adding the WMSW in small increase of traffic and the WGSW in large increase of traffic.
