This paper refers to the influences of variation factors in respect to NO{sub}x emissions from medium speed power generating diesel engines. The level of NO{sub}x emission from such an engine is liable to be influenced by airborne moisture and the ignitability of fuels. To clarify the influence of fuel ignitability among all relevant factors, upon NO{sub}x emission, combustion testing was conducted on a single-cylinder engine using fuels of different cetane indexes. On the basis of this testing, the results revealed that at the combustion test for certification of compliance of marine diesel NO{sub}x emission, the influence of fuel ignitability in NO{sub}x emission is not negligible.
