The development of electronic document & drawing data interchange system IN{sup}2AVICS

This paper outlines the development of IN{sup}2AVICS, an Internet-based electronic document & drawing (graphics) data interchange system. The basic concept of this system centers on its function as an EDI tool for initiating a CALS-like businesswith a client within an extremely short time. The portable document format is adopted as the basic document and drawing interchange format for IN{sup}2AVICS. This format was selected as text and graphics can be displayed on the Internet having a qualityidentical to the original, regardless of the software used to create such media. IN{sup}2AVICS also features a search engine with a thesaurus function, by which stored text and graphic data can be made available. Users can make full use of the manybusiness-based functions featured in IN{sup}2AVICS as soon as system setup is completed, including search, view, upload and download text and graphics through an Internet browser. IN{sup}2AVICS is capable of running various business systems beside theCALS-like business system, such as an electronic catalogue system, knowledge database system, facility management system, and the like.
