Economic evaluation of Russian machinery and John Deere machinery in the Krasnodar region.

A comparison is made of the productivity (ha/hour) and fuel consumption (kg/ha) of Russian machinery and John Deere machinery engaged on a range of basic agricultural operations in the Krasnodar region of S. Russia. These operations were: pre-sowingcultivation, sowing maize, inter-row cultivation, harvesting silage maize, sowing sugarbeet, harvesting sugarbeet haulm, harvesting sugarbeet, autumn cultivation, discing wheat stubble, discing maize stubble, and ploughing to a depth of 20-22cm. Data are also presented on the labour requirement (man-hours/ha) and operating costs (roubles/ha). The comparison shows that for most jobs the Russian machinery is inferior to John Deere machinery as regard productivity, fuel consumption, and labour requirement, but the Russian machinery is clearly superior as regards direct annual operating costs.
