A pulse-type multiwavelength light source (PMLS) is a promising light source for wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical communications since the channel spacing which is equal to the repetition frequency of optical pulses is easily sustainable with high accuracy. In this article, we have proposed a novel scheme that increases the number of optical frequency channels by superposing a series of optical frequencies created by serrodyne modulation in an optical ring circuit, and have confirmed the performance experimentally. Since the scheme is implemented without using high-cost, special optical components, the system can easily be well controlled.
