The Deep Earth Surveyor Riser Drillship is the world's most advanced scientific riser drillship. Its target is to reach the earth's mantle in the ocean at a depth of about 4000 meters (about 2500 meters at persent). This paper describes the riser design and water depth limitations, ideas for improvement, and anticipated prospects.
