Simulation of Suspension Coil Springs Displaying Three-Dimensional Motions by Finite Element Method

We have compiled finite element method (FEM) data for coil springs and leaf springs using the FEM pre post processor structured on a computer aided design (CAD) software, and have analyzed them with the solver ABAQUS of Hibbitt, Karlsson & Sorensen, Inc.In connection with coil springs, we analyzed the load-displacement characteristic curves, stress distributions, and the curved states of spring bodies by the parallel, offset and accordion motion compression methods. Regarding the parallel and offset compression methods, we are proud of having attained an analysis rate of 100percent, but regarding the accordion motion compression method, there were not a few cases in which analysis was impossible.This time, we wish to report that we strove to improve this analysis rate and that we succeeded in the pre post processing of three-dimensional motions with the CAD software.
