The customer's requirement for better strip profile and flatness is growing stricter. Accurate models to estimate profile and logic to determine rolling conditions, based on these models, are required in order to produce hot-rolled strips with good profiles and flatness. Two models have been developed by Kawasaki Steel. One is an analytical roll deformation model, which is a simplification of a strict roll deformation model. The other is a strip profile model, which is derived from a coupled model of a rigid-plastic FEM and the roll deformation model. By the application of these models to Mizushima Hot Strip Mill, a hot rolling technology to achieve excellent strip profiles and flatness has been established.
