MINERALOGY OF THE PRECAMBRIAN GOLD ORE DEPOSIT RYBOZERO (EASTERN KARLIA)

Rybozero, a small ore deposit located in Lopian rocks of the Rybozerskaya Structure (the Late Arehean South Vygozero grenstone belt) is one of the best mineralogically studied gold-bearing occurrences in East Karelia. Besides the gold sulfide ore there are several other types: massive pyrite, sulfide-copper-nickel and V_rich magnetite ores containing Pt-Pd mineralization. At the southern end of the structure an ultramafic intrusion contains also a chromite ore occurrence. Gold mineralization was revealed in listwanites developed after komatiites and within recrystallized massive pyrite ore. The ore body in listwanites contains native gold, gold-bearing pyrite and chalcopyrite. Mineralogy of the gold-bearing massive sulfide ores is more diversified and represented by gold, pyrite, chalcopyrite, sphalerite, galena, arsenopyrite, bournonite, a Sb-Bi-telluride, tetrahdrite, altaite, ullmannite, melonite, coloradoite and a Ag-Sb-bearing bismutho-telluride; cassiterite, ilmenite and rutile were detected there also.
