A comparative study of fracture toughness of nitride-, silicon-, alumina-, and zirconia-based ceramics has been performed with the use of the method of flexure of a beam with a V-notch on its surface (SEVNB-method). It is shown that this method, which is easy to realize in practice for both compact and composite ceramics, yields the data with a small scatter of the values. The magnitudes obtained with its use correspond to those obtained by the method involving flexure of a beam with a short crack on its surface (SEPB-method).
