This paper compared the performance of interference suppression of (1) adaptive antenna array transmit diversity (AAA-TD) with both beam and null steering, (2) AAA-TD only with beam steering, and (3) multi-beam transmit diversity with fixed transmit antenna weights in W-CDMA forward link. The simulation results showed that the AAA-TD with beam steering can decrease the average transmit E{sub}b/N{sub}0 required for the average BER of 10{sub}(-3) by approximately 1-1.5dB compared to the multi-beam transmit diversity with maximal ratio combining (MRC) in two contiguous beams. It is also verified that the AAA-TD with both beam and null steering can decrease the required average transmit E{sub}b/N{sub}0 approximately 1dB compared to that only with beam steering when the small number of high rate users with high transmit power exist even if the number of interfering users is larger than that of antennas.
