Flexible Upstream Line Bit Rate PON -PON supporting 156M/622M and 622M/622 M ONUs simultaneously-

If one optical line terminal (OLT) can simultaneously support two types of optical network units (ONUs) with 622.08 Mbit/s symmetrical line bit rates and with 155.52 Mbit/s upstream and 622.08 Mbit/s downstream asymmetrical line bit rates for a broadband passive optical network (B-PON), it will lead to flexible access network operations, and thus allow for cost-effective network services. This paper proposes a method for realizing it. We propose a method for controlling data transmission for the two types of ONUs from OLT. We propose a new upstream frame that defines 622.08 Mbit/s and 155.52 Mbit/s burst signals at the same time. We provide an OLT implementation for processing these signals uniformly.
