Quantitative and qualitative changes in the composition of iron oxides that occur during the development of porosity in the illuvial horizons of soddy-podzolic loamy soils are considered. A hypothesis of porosity development under deep loosening is proposed; the main stages of the process and the conditions required to preserve the porous structure are revealed.
