摘要

In 1989, irrigated lands comprised 4.6% of the total area of agricultural lands in Volgograd oblast, Russia. The ameliorative status of irrigated lands has changed significantly during the period of intensive irrigation (with a maximum achieved in 1989). Irrigated lands are subjected to secondary salinization and waterlogging. Both natural and anthropogenic factors affect the development of these negative phenomena. Soil survey data obtained in 1989 and 2001 have been used to assess temporal changes in the ameliorative status of irrigated lands and evaluate the role of natural factors in secondary salinization and waterlogging of irrigated soils. It is shown that the areas of these soils have decreased considerably within the considered period because of the exclusion of corresponding land massifs from irrigation. A distribution map of the irrigated lands in Volgograd oblast is presented.
