Measurement and analysis of propagation path variations in a street micro-cell scenario

5.2 GHz band vector channel sounding measurements are carried out in a street micro cell scenario of Tokyo urban area, and the simultaneous variation characteristics of channel parameter for each elementary path (ray) are analyzed. A half-wavelength dipole antenna mounted on a roof of a measurement wagon is used as a transmission antenna, and the measurement is done while the wagon is stopping still beside a car-road. The transmission antenna is set at some locations which distances from a receiving antenna are distributed from 100m to 600m. An 8-elements uniform linear array (ULA) and a 64-elements uniform rectangular array (URA) are used as the receiving antenna, and both antenna heights are set on 4m, 8m, and 13m. The signal processing algorithms such as the unitary ESPRIT and the SAGE are applied to the measurement data, so that the parameters of the Doppler frequency, the direction of arrival (DOA), the time delay, and the path weight are estimated. The simultaneous variations of arrival ray are picked up from the estimated results and are analyzed. This paper shows that the elementary path variations are classified on three kinds of variation, and discusses about the probability distribution of their parameters' variation. The number of measurement data are not so enough for obtaining the statistically meaningful results, the further measurements are needed. However, these results will be very useful and meaningful for constructing the elementary path variation model.
