The effects of the temperature of metal mold andthe coat thickness on the solidification time of aluminum alloycastings in gravity die casting were investigated theoretically andexperimentally. Plate aluminum alloy casting was cast by thegravity die casting. The experimental data showed that thesolidification times of the casting increased as the thickness of coatand the temperature of the metal mold increased. One-dimensionalanalysis of the solidification of the casting with heat resistance ofthe coat and that at the interface between the casting and the coatwas carried out. It was found that the effects of the interfacial heatresistance on the solidification time of the casting was large andthat the temperature change at the casting surface was not significant.
