C-GIS 2100, a 24kV SF{sub}6-free gas-insulated switchgear

At the 3rd Session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, on a global warming potential, SF{sub}6 gas was shown to exhibit a large greenhouse effect of 23,900 times that of CO{sub}2. SF{sub}6 gas is one of the gases targeted for reduction. Consequently, there have been calls to develop electric equipment that is free of SF{sub}6 gas. Based on this viewpoint, Fuji Electric has commercialized the C-GIS2100, a 24 kV SF{sub}6-free gas-insulated switchgear that uses absolutely no SF{sub}6 gas. Based on the technology of the C-GIS2000 which achieved a large reduction in the amount of SF{sub}6 gas, the C-GIS 2100 is built to the same dimensions and incorporates new technology to provide insulation by means of compressed dry air. This paper introduces the SF{sub}6-free C-GIS 2100.
