A large amount of magnesia-chromia waste bricks have been reclaimed after the use in high temperature furnace such as cement rotary kilns, steel refining furnaces and so on. For the recycle of these waste bricks, the carbon deoxidization and metal recovering was tested with high temperature plasma furnace. As a result, 89% magnesium as magnesia powder in the exhaust dust and 48% chromium as iron-chromium alloy in the ingots could be recovered. Vacuum treatment during heating was effective for magnesium vaporization. However, it was disadvantage for chromium recovery because the chromium vaporization loss was also promoted simultaneously. On the view to make the rapid deoxidization, the size of waste bricks should be smaller than lmm. And it is preferable to put them with iron, pig iron or iron carbide to increase the reaction cites.
