Supersonic combustion ramjet (SCRAMJET for short) combustor studies are carried out in Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL for short), for flight focused SCRAMJET engine development. Kerosene ignition characterizes have been investigated by using two different injection schemes. In the first study pilot hydrogen aided kerosene ignition was achieved. The investigation was extended with the same combustor using hydrogen barbotaging of kerosene. In both the cases ignition and sustained combustion of kerosene was achieved. The performance comparison has been made in terms of wall pressure and wall flushed temperature measurements. The hydrogen barbotaging exhibits higher perfonnance in terms of higher-pressure rise and temperature rise, for the same equivalence ratio. The amount of hydrogen employed for barbotaging was much less than that of pilot hydrogen. The results of the experimental studies are discussed here.
