This paper describes discharge characteristics of SF{sub}6 gas for very fast transient (VFT) voltage. Blumlein circuits generate VFT voltages of 60 and 300 nano-seconds in pulse width that simulate disconnector switching surges in gas-insulated switchgears. These VFT voltages were used to measure discharge characteristics of plane-to-plane SF{sub}6 gaps in addition to lightning impulse voltages. The measured data were formulated in Weibull probability distribution and V-t characteristics. The shape parameters and the equi-probabilistic V-t characteristics in VFT time range are presented in the paper. 50 % probability V-t curve increases remarkably in the time range. However, the low probability V-t curve such as 0.1 % is almost flat in 300 ns time range.
