New Interesting Rootstocks: Peaches, Plums, Apricots, Cherries and Almonds

Many new rootstocks have recently been made available to stone fruit growers throughout the US. Many of these rootstocks are the 'shining stars' from overseas breeding programs creating high expectations for performance in the US orchard communities.With a few years of both scientific and casual observations gathered, we are beginning to focus on a few rootstocks with interesting characteristics. One lesson coming from the observations is that the success of a rootstock in the region of originationdoes not necessarily transfer with the rootstock. Therefore, a word of caution is appropriate; my observations are primarily of trials in California. The rootstock information presented places priority on specific characteristics important to progressive commercial growers.
