It's the first 'Red Flag', exercise of the new decade. As usual, it means Nellis is packed with great action and some exotic visitors, as Combat Aircraft reports. A highlight of Red Flag' 2011-2 at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada, in January was the participation by United Arab Emirates AF Block 60 F-16E/F Desert Falcons from Al Dhafra. This marked only the second time the United Arab Emirates had trained in a 'Red Flag' exercise, and the first occasion on which these advanced 'Vipers' had made the long journey from the UAE. In the past, Fighting Falcons from the now defunct training unit at Tucson, Arizona, had been used.
