With the career of the US Navy's aging Lockheed P-3C Orion approaching its end, it selected the Boeing P-8A Poseidon as its replacement. Combat Aircraft talks to the first operational P-8A squadron, VP-16 'War Eagles', as it prepared for the Poseidon's debut fleet deployment. THIS DECEMBER THE 'War Eagles' of Patrol Squadron 16 (VP-16) are making US Navy history as they become the first fleet squadron to deploy with the new Boeing P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft. This marks an historic event not only for the Poseidon program, which has been focused on this milestone for nearly a decade, but also the first time in over 50 years that the US maritime patrol community has deployed with a new aircraft type. It last happened in 1962 when VP-8 'Tigers' took the P-3A Orion on its maiden deployment.
