摘要

A procedure is developed for the 3-dimensional mapping of forest trees using aerial photographic data; the procedure involves automatic contouring with a personal computer and scanner. It was tested using real photographic data from a forest [in Japan] as a means of measuring tree height and stand density. The proposed procedure can be used to measure tree height if the top and bottom of the tree can be identified on the aerial photographs. The estimated stand density almost agreed with the measured density for a coniferous forest where the tree has a single canopy top.
