The influence of the physical properties of weft yarns and decatizing treatment on the physical properties of silk necktie fabrics was investigated. When the silk yarns of 63d (manufactured by twisting 3 silk yarns of 21d) were used as the weft thread in doubles instead of the silk yarns of 126d (manufactured by twisting 6 silk yarns of 21d) in singles, the rigidity and hysteresis at shearing and bending deformations of the fabrics increased. For the fabrics using methacrylamide (MAA) treated silk yarns as the weft thread, the rigidity and hysteresis at shearing deformation decreased, however, the bending rigidity of satin fabrics increased. The electrostatic propensity of silk fabrics was reduced when MAA treated silk yarns were used as the weft thread. The decatizing treatment was effective to reduce the shearing stiffness and the hysteresis at shearing and bending deformations.
