Reform of Water Pricing Policies: The Effect on Water Management in the Irrigation Scheme in Algeria

摘要

In Algeria the irrigation systems are considered as major factors for agricultural and rural development. Theoretically, the irrigation systems, not being dependent on climatic risks, have good potential to generate an important added value to the economy [9]. However, the increasing competitions for water resources caused by rapid urbanization and the decrease in resource availability have become severe constraints to development and extension of irrigation systems. This fact emphasizes the importance and need for better water management in the agricultural sector, and more specifically, for improved performance of irrigation systems.
