Functional hoof cutting in hoof diseases of dairy cows

Concerning the hoof disease of 97 dairy cows' hind legs, a functional hoof cutting was conducted in which the height of hoof at the normal side was made higher than that of affected hoof, and in which the load function of hoof was taken into considerations. Treatments were carried out mainly by means of treatment frame, but the affected leg was lifted with the rope at the reserved stall floor in the farm in which the treatment frame could not be prepared. In the treatments, the site of lesion was removed, and when there was infection at the interdigit, corona, hoof bulb, and the skin in the upper part of the hoof bulb, the application of mixture which was composed of pine tar and zinc oxide was made, and the protection bandage was applied only in severe cases. In case the correction was impossible irrespective of performing functional grinding of hoof, in case the pain of the affected hoof was severe, and in case of preventing the contamination of affected hoof, a wooden block was installed in the hoof sole of healthy hoof. When the pain of the affected hoof was reduced by these treatments, the pain and limping gait were reduced, and the gait was stabilized, and the cure was recognized in such a high rate of 98 percent cases.
