摘要

A decision was made at a large academic medical facility and regional burn center to engage WOC nurses as first-line consultants for topical treatment of severe exfoliative disorders, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN). A protocol was developed for preventing colonization and infection, promoting faster healing times, and facilitating care by staff nurses. This clinical challenge summarizes topical wound management of 3 patients with SJS or TEN. They were selected because they illustrated the improved patient comfort, diminished time required for dressing changes, and decreased treatment costs achieved since institution of this protocol in our facility 4 years ago.
