Five-membered phosphametallacycles Cp(OC)M-PR2-C(=S)-N(ME)-C(=O): Synthesis via [3+2]-cycloaddition of metallophosphanes Cp(OC)(2)M-PR2 (M = Fe, Ru; R = alkyl, aryl) methylisothiocyanate - Transition metal substituted phosphanes, arsanes and stibanes

Deprotonation of the cationic phosphane complexes {Cp(OC)(2)[R-2(H)P]M}X (M = Fe, Ru; X = BF4, PF6) (1a-d) with KOr-Bu in the presence of methylisothiocyanate (2) yields the five-membered phospha-metallacycles Cp(OC)M-PR2-C(=S)-N(Me)-C(=O) [M = Fe, PR2 = P(t-Bu)(2) (3a), PPh2 (3b), P(t-Bu)Ph (3c); M = Ru, PR, = P(i-Pr)(2) (3d)]. Treatment of the metallacycle 3b with CF3SO3H affords the cationic iron complex {Cp(OC)(2)[Me(H)N-C(=S)-(Ph)(2)P]Fe}CF3SO3 (4). The structure of 3b was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.
