Advanced Medical Radiation Technologist Practice and the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists:History and Perspective

As the health care system evolves to meet the changing needs of the Canadian public, significant shifts are taking place in the way patient care is delivered. One of the more notable evolutions is the redistribution of traditional roles among health care professionals, specifically the rise of advanced practice (AP).Evidence from across the health care professions shows how AP initiatives can lead to important gains in access to care, quality of care, and patient satisfaction [1-5]. Advanced medical radiation technology (MRT) practice, where it has been implemented, has also been shown to provide benefits to patients and health care systems [6-9].
