An eye to the future - the work of the WREN telecottage.

This article looks in general at the importance of the telecommunications revolution, and more specifically at the concept of the telecottage or telecentre, and their impact on people in rural areas. The basic concepts of telematics, teleworking andtelecentres/telecottages are defined. Telecottages combine supported and open public access to IT (usually hourly, on-site hire) with IT training and the provision of business and office services. An example is given of the Warwickshire Rural EnterpriseNetwork (WREN) telecottage in the UK.
