摘要

Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) represents a durable and effective therapy in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. The use of CSII has increased during recent years, especially in the pediatric population. Previous studies demonstrated several advantages of CSII compared to multiple daily injections (MDI)-less variability in insulin absorption, more physiological insulin action, and more flexibility in scheduling meals-but also potential disadvantages, such as an increased risk of ketoacidosis, due to pump malfunction, exposure to high temperatures, or technical mistakes.
