In specified coking conditions, with selected batch composition, the strength of metallurgical coke will depend on the phase transitions and chemical reactions in the melt and on the synthesis of organic materials by the components of the initial batch [1, 2], A positive interaction in the batch mixture will result in coke whose strength is greater than the sum of the initial strength values of the batch components. The degree of interaction of batch components is evaluated on the basis of experiments on the sintering of coal grains with anthracite [2] and from statistical analysis of coking data corresponding to standard factorial [3] or simplex--network [4, 5] experiment plans. The integral difference between the actual and additive strength characteristics may be adopted as a measure of the interaction between two coals [5]. In [6], evaluation of the interaction on the basis of a microcharacteristic was proposed: the adhesive forces of the coke fragments in sintering grains of different coals.
